The field of facility management has undergone significant development and transformation in recent years, not only in the traditional sense of building management but also in areas where facility management plays a supporting role by providing information, data, expertise, and other services. For many years, education in this field was based primarily on the transfer of experience from one generation to the next, while the market lacked high-quality educational programs.

Today, however, this is changing. Topics such as ESG and BIM are becoming increasingly important. Economic developments have also created new demands in the housing sector, with rental housing receiving greater attention than ever before. Rising labor costs and a shortage of qualified workers are forcing employers to adopt increasingly sophisticated management methods and operational solutions. In this context, artificial intelligence (AI) is gaining greater prominence due to its ability to automate labor-intensive and repetitive tasks.

All these topics, along with many others related to facility management, directly or indirectly influence supporting tools such as CAFM software solutions, which are—or at least should be—the right hand of every facility manager.

Fortunately, the number of institutions dedicated to education and raising awareness in this field is growing. These range from professional organizations focused on specific areas to independent platforms that aim to present current industry topics in a broader context and make them accessible to a wider audience. One such platform is the FM CAMP conference, held annually in Poprad, Slovakia. This year marked its 10th anniversary edition.

This well-established and successful conference regularly introduces relevant and timely topics while striving to maintain an international perspective, ensuring that it is more than just a local event aimed at a domestic audience. Topics such as artificial intelligence, BIM, and sustainability are presented by renowned international experts who, drawing on their experience from across Europe, provide valuable insights and a broader perspective on these issues.

The conference organizers aim to deliver inspiring ideas and practical knowledge that attract facility management professionals from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and beyond to the High Tatras.

Education in facility management is a continuous process. It is therefore essential to create space for new trends, experiences, and knowledge that continuously emerge and shape the industry.
